To all contraceptive using women out there, please please do not put this drug into your system. It is not safe. There have been insufficient clinical trials in humans to prove its safety and in animal trials it is associated with a 25% increase in cancer. The FDA has just released a warning that states long term use of this drug will cause decreased bone density.
Before now I had only heard good stories, or the occasional weight gain story about this drug. Please know that it is much more harmful than this. The drug itself is a synthetic steriod which depletes your natural store of progesterone. This causes a heap of imbalances such as anxiety, depression, over eating etc. The mechanism of contraception is that it prohibts a fertilised egg to latch on to the lining of the uterus. This sits very badly depending on your view of when life begins.
